Systems Engineering is an interdisciplinary approach that forces assessment, then solution of the complete Problem. Systems Engineering focuses on defining customer needs and required functionality early in the development cycle, documenting requirements, then proceeding with design synthesis, system validation, deployment, sustainment, and finally disposal. In short, systems engineering is the means to effective lifecycle management.
The partition between Systems Engineering and Electrical and Mechanical Engineering disciplines is becoming increasingly artificial. For example, Wireless Networking covers a wide spectrum of areas ranging from network processing, physical layers, communications, optimization, and statistical processes to control and manage network economics and pricing, none of which can be straightforwardly classified as 'electrical' or 'system' issues. Similarly, hybrid systems, and sensors are areas that have wide application to Weapons systems, "smart" buildings and highways, and environmental monitoring. These are only a few of the many examples where electrical, mechanical, and systems engineering are converging.
It is not hard to guess, then, that SES's Program Management approach is basically Systems Engineering. SES has the capability to integrate all required engineering disciplines and specialty groups into a team effort forming a structured development process that proceeds from concept definition to design, development, production, operation, sustainment, and disposal. SES considers both the business and the technical needs of all customers with the goal of providing a high quality, sustainable product that meets the user needs. The following list represents specific strategic support services that SES can provide to any given program. SES has the capability to manage/support your entire program lifecycle.
